Directory Update Features
Directory Update was originally a custom designed application; we started
with the basic features of Microsoft's
GALMod. Every feature since the very
first version has been features that have been requested by our customers.
We like to think that the product is completely customer driven. Here are some
screen shots and descriptions of the product:
Configure the Interface to Suit Your Needs
The fields that are displayed on the User Information form are can be hidden
or set to read only. This example shows a User Information form that has been
scaled back to just a few important fields.

The administrator chose which attributes are visible or hidden. Entire sections
of the interface can be hidden if they are not relevant to your organization.
See the Attributes Support
list for a full listing of attributes.
Improve Directory Accuracy
Reduce typos, spelling errors or improperly formatted information. Almost all
fields in the user interface can be either a text box or a drop-down list. The
administrator defines if the field should be a drop-down list or a
text box.

In this figure, the Company and Department fields are drop-down lists and the
employee ID field is a text box. The possible values in each drop-down list are
customized by the administrator.
Manager, Assistant, and Secretary (available in v1.3)
The Manager field is one of those fields in Active Directory that is rarely
correct. The Assistant, and Secretary fields are not even exposed in the Active
Directory Users and Computers interface! Yet work flow applications, Sharepoint,
and organizational charts can take advantage of this information.

To select the Manager, Secretary, or Assistant, the user needs to click the
search icon or simply click in the field and type of the first few characters of
the person's display name (as it appears in the Global Address List). In the
below example, the characters "Ma" were typed in the Manager field and
the drop-down list displays all of the display names with the characters Ma in
the first part of the name.

When the name is selected, the list of users is closed. This little bit of magic
is courtesy of a web control from
Telerik.
Custom Attributes and Other Fields
Not all organizations use the custom attributes or additional fields such as
Web page, Notes, Description, etc..., but you can reveal these in the User
Information form and even define custom drop-down values if you require those.
Below shows the a few of the custom attribute fields. Of course, the labels have
been changed to make them easier for the user except for custom attribute 4 (a.k.a.
Ext Attribute 4) which we left "as is" for this example.

Telephone Number Validation (available in v1.3)
You can enable telephone number format validation so that the user must enter
the telephone number in whatever format you require. Phone number validation is
performed using regular expressions (REGEX). If the built-in examples do not
properly define your format requirements you can define just about any format
that you want.

The example note at the bottom of the phone number section is customizable by
the administrator.
Required Fields (available in v1.3)
The administrator can flag any field in the interface as a required field. If
the user tries to update the page without providing data for that field, the are
reminded that field is required.

In addition to the red asterisk next the field label, an error message appears
at the top of the screen telling the user which fields are required.
