General Access Denied Error

A couple of users have reported the following error message when they logon to Directory Update to update their user account:

General access denied error

at System.DirectoryServices.Interop.IAds.SetInfo() at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.CommitChanges() at MattWare.DirectoryUpdate._Default.UpdateUserProperties() at MattWare.DirectoryUpdate._Default.btnUpdate_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e)

This error occurs when you have configured your service account with Account Operator rights (or less than Account Operator permissions), but you are trying to update an operator or administrator level account.  An Account Operator cannot update other operator accounts or admin accounts. This is a security feature of Windows and Active Directory.

This should not affect your end users unless (*shudder*), you have made them operators or administrators!  We will incorporate a more friendly error in to the interface in the next version.
